Cast Iron – Materials and norms

This grade belongs to gray cast iron (cast iron with flake graphite). GG15 offers a good combination of strength and wear resistance, while maintaining good machinability along with excellent surface finish. Perfectly dampens noise and vibration.

EN-GJL-200, also known as GG20, is a grade of grey cast iron characterized by its excellent machinability and good thermal conductivity. This cast iron is widely used in applications where stiffness is more critical than tensile strength. Common uses include internal combustion engine cylinder blocks, pump housings, valve bodies, and electrical boxes. Its good damping capacity makes it suitable for machine tool mountings and other components that require vibration and sound damping. Additionally, EN-GJL-200 is often employed in producing castings for moderate loads, such as bases, frames, and bearing seats.

The most used grade belongs to grey cast iron (cast iron with flake graphite). The GG25 offers a great combination of strength and abrasion resistance while remaining its good machinability.

This grade belongs to grey cast iron (cast iron with flake graphite). Compared to the more common GG25, it offers a higher wear resistance and heat treatment capability. GG30 has great vibration and sound dampening properties.

GGG40 is the most used grade of ductile iron (spheroidal graphite cast iron). It offers excellent machinability, impact resistance, high electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability. Due to its enormous strength, it is suitable for heavy duty components such as machine levers, chains, bushings, brake pads or connecting rods.

This grade belongs to ductile iron (spheroidal graphite cast iron). Compared to GGG40, it stands out mainly because of its ferritic-pearlitic structure. It provides good tensile strength and satisfactory yield strength. Moreover, it offers good machinability and can withstand temperatures up to 450 °C. It is thus suitable for heavy duty components such as transport wheels and wheel hubs.

This grade belongs to ductile iron (spheroidal graphite cast iron). Its structure is mostly pearlitic, so it is recommended for components that require high wear resistance and maximum strength. In addition, the surface can be further hardened. Compared to GGG50, it has lower tensile strength. It is suitable in production of rotors, shafts, gears, crane pulleys, transport wheels, high pressure valves, pumps, lifting pulleys, etc.

Being a grade of austenitic (stainless) steel with exceptional resistance to heat, corrosion and wear, XNiCr20 does not magnetize, has good machinability and sound and vibration damping properties.
